A Fleet Of Ships

Lara sits outside on a rotting log near the Sword Maker’s house.  She stares at a large bonfire as the Sword Master and Sword Maker debate with giants and dwarves related to the deceased King of Giants and Dwarves.   Jedreck sits beside her silently, sitting upright his expression serious as he listens to the conversation.  She feels drained.  The only thing she really wants to do is see her sister, her nephew, and her grandmother.  The problem is she has been told, all of the women in her family are married to the Sword Master.  So, what happens with Jedreck?  Well, the Sword Master would need to understand some rules. She lifts her gaze to the dwarven noble Wymund.  His gaze meets her.

“My father is hardly breathing.  We need to make the soul war hammer,” Wymund says with passion.

“Who will wield the hammer?” she shouts out.

There’s silence amongst the giants and dwarves.

She sees Wymund glance around.  “I will,” he says sitting up taller and pushing out his chest.

“You’re part giant?” The Sword Master asks.  His voice is deep and sad.

“We all are,” Wymund replies looking around at his siblings and half siblings.

“Do you love your father and did he love you?” she asks.  Her hand goes subconsciously to the hilt of her own soul sword.  She understands the Sword Master’s concern.  His soul sword is made from hate and murder while hers is was made from love and her grandfather’s desire to protect.

“Of course,” Wymund replies.  His words sound forced.

“Let’s get this over with,” the Sword Maker says.  He was waiting for them when they arrived.  Perhaps he had a hidden boat along the river.

Haashir stands up from a rock he was sitting on.  “I’ll make the preparations,” he says with his unusually deep voice for such a tiny man.  She wonders for the first time what he gets out of this.  And that scar on his chest.  Haashir is the only person she has met that has no one like him.  He doesn’t feel like faei.  Nor does he share a physical likeness to dwarves, Propers, three quarter moon ear, and certainly not giants.  He is like a tiny version of Propers she supposes.
