Coronation Preparations

Lara stares at the ancient throne chair standing on a dais with a stitched together deerskin canopy.
The throne chair is so large three of her could sit side by side comfortably. Her grandfather would look like a toddler sitting in it. The splat that will support the king’s back is carved into a giant man standing beside a dwarven women. The back uprights are carved totem poles. A word she was unfamiliar with until the other day when one of the old king’s dwarven wives explained it to her. Each totem pole tells a story. The old king’s wife also explained that her husband was very old and had come from a far-off land. After the coronation the new king would have his choice of four more wives. Two from amongst the giants and two from the dwarves. It seems the plague had not affected the giants and dwarven population the way it did the Propers. There are batches of flowers in ornately dyed clay pots before the three steps of the dais. Bouquets of aquilegia, tulips, honeysuckle, and ranunculus.
Giant and dwarven women are placing pots of flowers at the edge of an opening surrounded by a wall of trees. Meanwhile, dwarven men pick up any stones in the area before the dais. Those watching the coronation will stand or sit on skin blankets. She can feel excitement in the air. Everyone setting up the coronation is smiling and some are singing quiet, joyful songs. What is missing is the Sword Maker and Novak, who will soon be King Novak. She looks around with a helpless feeling. She isn’t here to help out with the coronation, she’s here to be watched by Jedreck who sits on a nearby rock. Once the coronation is over, she is to help make another soul weapon. Not a sword this time but a war hammer. One of the deceased king’s half giant half dwarven sons is dying. His last wish is that his soul will be captured in a weapon to pass on to his eldest son.
She only made the original soul weapons out of anger and to keep her family’s legacy alive. She likes Jedreck, though he keeps her here against her will and Haashir and Ellis and the rest of the carnival staff. But she misses her sister, her grandmother, and watching her nephew grow.
