Sir Oisin is walking outside the gates when he hears hoof falls behind him.  He recognizes Sir Oliver’s destrier, Alberta but not the other horse.  He nods at the gate’s guard and walks forward without looking back.  He doesn’t think Sir Oliver will recognize him but he doesn’t want to take a chance.  As the horses trot by he sees the other rider is a female with her hood pulled tightly around her head.  The woman’s horse slows down a short distance away and halts.  The woman turns and looks directly at him with a big smile.  He curses.  He hears her call to Sir Oliver.  Sir Oliver turns Alberta around.  Alberta trots right up to him.

“Sir Oisin?” he hears Sir Oliver asks in a confused tone.

“Sir Oliver,” he replies.

“Spying?” Sir Oliver asks.

“Looking for Sir Ganbold’s spies, actually.”  He takes Sir Oliver’s proffered hand and leaps onto Alberta’s back.

“It’s good you’re light of bone,” the woman rider says with wicked charm.

“You two know each other?” Sir Oliver asks.

“Just met,” he replies.  “Ronin’s in the woods.”

“Hope he doesn’t get angry when he’s sees you on Alberta’s back.”

The young woman on the other horse makes him feel awkward.  “And may I know your name?” he asks.

“Endellion,” she answers with a sly smile.  She glances around and then pulls back her hood.  “I’m the one that’s been dismembering soldiers who did a horrible thing.”  Her tone is deadly and full of warning.

He gulps, “Except one.”  He hopes she’ll keep that in mind since they’re now connected.

As they ride, Sir Oliver tells him, “I’m to go to the giants and dwarves and bring back all abled men to help Sir Olaf defeat Sir Ganbold and change the direction of the river.”  There is a conflicted hinderance in his voice.

“What about the quarter-moon ears?” he asks.

“Sir Olaf was vague but he believes they’ll be busy on their own shores.”

He feels a tension in his belly and knows he needs to hurry back to his people.
