A Motley Sisterhood of Pirates!  BOOK Three  (Part Fourteen: Blog Eighty-one)

“You let him go,” Sadie says with a hushed voice through clenched teeth.  “And you did it with him?”

“No, he was relieving himself and I needed to get him secluded from the others,” the Cannibal answers with a soothing, barely audible voice.  “I also didn’t want to get my clothes wet.”

Sadie sees “Ship Protector” with an arrow knocked and looking around.  “Now they know we’re here.”

“I must eat,” the Cannibal replies defensively.  “But I’m always courteous and listen while I feed.  He told me how he was born in a place called Italy, where his parents paid a barber to castrate him and his younger brother, so they could bring fame to the family.  Their local priest said they would be able to travel the world by keeping their soprano voices into adulthood.  His younger brother died shortly after. from an infection.  He learned that many of the other castrated boys also died.  Then there is the matter of what the priest often did to him and his brother.  Sickened by his treatment and terrified he would also catch an infection, he fled to Spain.  The world you came from seems so barbaric.”

“And yet he continues to do what he supposedly detests.  Why didn’t you eat all of him then?  Or at least kill him?” Sadie asks.  She can’t believe that the Cannibal let her food go.

“Do you think the others will believe him?”

Sadie, wants to yell out in rage.  “Where are the others?”

“I’ll take you there, once I put the rest of my clothes on.”

The Cannibal takes them to the edge of the forest.

“They were here,” the Cannibal says with an untroubled voice.

Sadie sees an opening in the forest with thick logs lying on either side of a circle of stones.  Within the circle embers from a fire still glow inside.

“Maybe they’re seeing the witch we came to save,” the Cannibal suggests.

“Why would you say that?” Sadie asks.

“He told me, The Witch cures them,” The Cannibal replies thoughtfully with an index finger pressed against her lower lip.  “He told me she lives on top of a cliff that overlooks the harbour where they keep their ships.”

“Miraculous job!” Cann—Thelma, Sadie says with a grin.
