A Motley Sisterhood of Pirates! BOOK Three (Part Fifteen: Blog Seventy) By Dan Watt and Taylor Norris, co-authors of the Rita Walker series
Sadie follows Zalla into the gallery. On the centre table is a map drawn with precision on weed unravel. It’s the name Umi gave to the water weed she discovered in shallower waters. “Unibrow” and Janice found they can use it to make paper, and new sheets for the sails. Who knows what else they’ll find it useful for. Alegandra is leaning against a wall with one foot braced behind her. Like Umi, she is waving one of the fancy hand fans they scavenged from a half sunken galleon.
Sadie tenses. With dizzying speed, she draws a rapier with her right hand, and pulls free a throwing knife with the other. Sitting on one of the tables closest to a wall, is the Cannibal girl, Thelma. She can take Thelma, even though Thelma is bigger and has those thick canine teeth.
The girl looks grey and gaunt. She’s punctured the skin of a complete plumper fish with her teeth. Her thin cheeks indent, as she rhythmically sucks out the fish’s blood. “Shouldn’t you cook that?” Sadie asks, giving Thelma a look of disgust.
“Need the blood,” Thelma replies while still sucking. She stops and wipes off her mouth. ““Unibrow” says she will gut and cook it for the crew when I’m done.”
Sadie scowls and turns back to Alejandra. “Zala says you have a mission for Umi and I.”
“And Thelma,” Alejandra adds. “She needs sustenance.”
Thelma can fight, and she can charm. As long as she doesn’t drink her or Umi’s blood in the middle of the night, she could be quite the asset. “Save the Witch and leave some carnage behind?” she asks with a grin and tilt of her head.
“Of course,” Allejandra replies, pushing herself off the wall and walking over to the map.
