I Hear Voices

Almost always hear a song in TN’s poems.

The Amateur's Quill

The voices of my roots are mellow
-sometimes shrill
I sense their reverberations in my bones,
a call for guidance,
whether or not
to grow up, up all around me,
crawl around my frame,
tiptoe across my neck
-squeeze.
Or to grow deep into the earth,
sturdy and confident,
grounded by the force of my love.

Do you hear that?
“Tell us where to go.”
