Self Publishing: Healing The Temple Of The Soul

Healing The Temple Of The Soul

My preferred writing style is science fiction and fantasy but the next few blogs will be on the Teen and Young Adult Fiction stories Healing The Temple Of The Soul followed by Learning The Garden Of The Body.

Healing The Temple Of The Soul is about a teenage girl who tries to control her weight because of comments she overheard two girls say about her.  It’s a story about her struggles with an eating disorder, the friends she meets going through the same struggles, and realizing how much her family does care.  It’s also a story about her determination to help others never have to go through her struggles.

I recall volunteering at the YMCA when a girl came up to me and pulled down loose skin from the back of her arm.  She asked me how to get rid of the fat.  I could see her bone through her skin.  I told her she needed to put on muscle not lose fat.

As a writer this is the hardest story I’ve ever written (with a whole lot of help).  The strange thing was having people who struggled with an eating disorder tell me I was on the right path, and people in the psychology field tell me I was off track.  All I could do as a male trying to write from a fifteen year old girl’s perspective, was bounce back what I had observed and what girl’s had told me.

This is a fictional story but I tried to make it as realistic as possible.  The message is simple: even if we can’t understand what someone with an eating disorder is going through, we want them to know we care, and we want to help them get through it.

My next Blog will be discussing the artwork for Healing The Temple Of The Soul.  The first chapter of the story is at the website for caedar-writing-artwork.
